Some of the people who attend The ABLE Centre recently went to a book signing by man who is one of our keenest supporters.

Peter Moppett has just published a book entitled ‘Richmond and Swaledale – An illustrated visit to a beautiful dale’.

His book captures and illustrates the beauty of the area with over 200 original photographs and digital paintings.

Christmas activities

Christmas activities

People who attend an day centre for adults in Richmondshire were very busy with Christmas activities in the run-up to the festive season.

‘Stained’ glass paintings and Christmas cards were just two examples of the work undertaken by people at the Broadacres-run ABLE (Activity Based Learning Environment) Day Centre.

The Centre was tasked with making the official Broadacres Christmas cards for 2017 and everyone did a fine job designing and making three different versions, amounting to 350 cards in total.

Strength to Strength

Strength to Strength

The ABLE Day Centre is going from strength to strength, with more people than ever before now using our services.

Enquiries to Centre have increased following the launch of our first website and after we were featured in Richmondshire Today.

Among those who have recently started attending the centre, which is run by Broadacres Housing Association, are 30-year-old Sarah Quin, from Richmond.

Two parachute jumps

A 95-year-old ABLE Day Centre volunteer successfully did two parachute jumps in the space of a week.

On the 8th September, John Jeffries jumped with the famous Red Devils at Peterlee, to raise money for the Northumbria Blood Bikes charity.

Then, on 15th September, he did another jump in Arnhem, Holland, this time to recreate a jump he made in 1944 during the ill-fated Operation Market Garden in the Second World War.

Parachute jumps

A 95-year-old ABLE Day Centre volunteer is preparing to do two parachute jumps in the space of a week.

Volunteering at The ABLE Day Centre

Volunteering at The ABLE Day Centre

Volunteering at The ABLE Day Centre become part of Pat and Barry Cooper’s lives.

The couple are never happier when they are helping at our day centre, which provides activity based learning for adults with learning or physical disabilities, mental health issues and dementia.

They arrive like clockwork every Friday and spend the day playing dominos, crafting and chatting to the people who use the day centre.
